Why did you choose structural engineering?

Civil/structural engineering runs in the family. My great-grandfather designed and built the first Mitchell Point Tunnel on the Historic Columbia River Highway. My grandfather worked on the construction of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge and later became Chief Bridge Engineer for the Division of Highways (precursor to Caltrans).
