Peoples Associates performed multi-phase reviews of two existing warehouse buildings for Quantum Corporation. In the initial phase, Peoples Associates' focus was to independently verify the conclusions of a PML (Probable Maximum Loss) study. Since "as-built" construction documents were not readily available, our tasks included performing investigative research to identify the original design team for the building shells, to locate lost construction documents, and to acquire useful information about the buildings and infrastructure elements. Based on the information obtained, Peoples Associates performed preliminary analyses based on FEMA 310 and assessed the four possible performance objective levels (Collapse Prevention, Life Safety, Immediate Occupancy, and Operational).
In the second phase, Peoples Associates directed structural exploratory work to determine structural information that could not be ascertained from interviews or available construction documents. The exploratory work included taking concrete core samples, proof-loading anchor bolts, taking x-rays of walls, and excavating foundation connections.
In the third phase, Peoples Associates performed a complete structural analysis and prepared construction documents to seismically rehabilitate the building to the Life Safety performance objective level. The construction documents comply with the Uniform Building Code and all local ordinances.
