Renovation and Retrofit of Building

Applied Materials Building 1 is the firm's Corporate Headquarters, housing office space, labs, and hazardous-occupancy cleanrooms in 85,000 sq. ft. of interior space. The one-story building was originally constructed in 1974 composed of conventional tilt-up concrete walls and a plywood roof diaphragm. The project consisted of a $10.8 million renovation and retrofit, providing much-needed strengthening to the building's Lateral Load Resisting System, in addition to substantially modifying and upgrading the interior spaces. The primary additions to the Lateral Load Resisting System were four lines of interior steel braced frames, the locations of which were closely coordinated with the Architect.
