Structural Design of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Guest House

The Stanford Linear Accelerator Guest House will provide short-term housing for scientists using the Stanford Linear Accelerator and Stanford University guests. The facility includes 112 single resident occupancy (SRO) type units, a common area and landscaped courtyard.

The facility consists of two distinct structures interconnected with a short corridor. The residential wing is a rectangular three-story structure built on grade. The community wing is a square three-story building with a two-story entry space and is partially subterranean.

The structural challenges presented to Peoples Associates was to establish a structural system that would meet the stringent SLAC Seismic Design Guidelines and address the site-specific design issues while maintaining economics.
