Structural Design of Two-Story Office Building

The Stoneridge Franklin Office Building is a modern two-story building totaling 19,000 sq. ft. It was constructed utilizing a metal deck diaphragm at the roof, a concrete over metal deck diaphragm at the second floor, and a slab on grade at the ground floor. The framing consists of steel trusses spanning up to forty five feet, supported by steel beams and girders.

The Structural Design of this Building was complicated by its numerous unique features. One such feature was the size, locations and spacing of the windows around the building perimeter, which required nearly every steel braced frame to be unique in size and capability. Another unique feature was the inclusion of mechanical equipment within a screened enclosure on the roof of the building. Two of the corners of the enclosue were situated on the roof such that support was required from cantilevered elements on the second floor.

This Building also included notched corners, windows located at many of the corners of the building, and two different exterior finish systems: a glass curtain wall at the south wall and a metal stud supported EIFS finish at the other walls.
